Chambers & Sellars occupied the same address from 1872 till 1876, and Robert Sellars is listed as being there on his own from 1873 till 1881. A negative number of 8663 can just be seen on the back of this cdv, which would suggest that the portrait was taken within a year of 1884, as Chambers is unlikely to have reached such a number within the first year, unless the numbering was carried over from Sellars' system. The card is thick (0.030"), and has gilt and chamfered edges.
